IMAGES BALLET COMPANY
Artistic Director: Jennifer Jackson
IMAGES BALLET COMPANY presents four richly contrasting works by a company of talented dancers and musicians. With new music, beautiful costumes and full of vitality, this is classic ballet with a contemporary aesthetic.
Making her very first work for a ballet company, irreverent choreographer Liz Aggiss delves into ballet tales to find death and disaster. Ballet Ireland’s Morgann Runacre-Temple presents imaginatively surreal articulations of the dancer’s body. Extracts from the Prologue of Sleeping Beauty come alive with a new score for flute and viola by Tom Armstrong, after Tchaikovsky, which is played live. Matthew Hart explores love and loss deftly woven into Malcolm Arnold’s vibrant Concerto for Two Pianos (Three Hands). Together it is an evening of high quality entertainment and thought-provoking artistry.
IMAGES BALLET COMPANY (formerly Images of Dance) was created in 1991 under the Artistic Directorship of Margaret Barbieri and the guidance of Dame Alicia Markova. The company was founded to provide classical ballet dancers with invaluable performing experience and to bring all aspects of classical ballet to new and younger audiences. The Company was re-launched under its new title, Images Ballet Company, in September 2015 and is under the Artistic Direction of Jennifer Jackson. At the heart of the work is the explorations of ballet as a creative and collaborative artistic practice, including with live music. The company presents diverse programmes of new, innovative works, as well as revivals of the classical and romantic narrative ballets.
The tour enables the dancers to develop and sustain their roles in a professional ballet programme, culminating in a final London performance; which is attended by artistic directors, choreographers and industry professionals. The tour is also an opportunity for aspiring dancers and dance fans alike to witness some of the UK’s finest and rising choreographers’ work performed by talented young dancers.
